Background: Based in Washington, D.C., VVMF (The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund) is a nonprofit organization authorized by the U.S. Congress in 1980 to build a national memorial dedicated to all who served with the U.S. armed forces in the Vietnam War. This memorial, known as The Wall, has the names of over 58,000 Vietnam veterans who gave their lives serving in the war or remain missing.
Development Solution Provided: One of the most unique aspects of VVMF.org is the newly redeveloped “Wall of Faces”. All 58,286 names on The Wall have a respective profile page on VVMF.org. These profile pages serve as places where users can visit, submit photos, leave remembrances and donate in their honor.
The newly developed website is custom built with our in-house content management system. We custom developed modules for this website that allow administrators to upload podcasts, write about news and events, and edit and view reports about veteran remembrances. All veteran photos are integrated with a separate solution that was custom developed to store, organize and assess each photo.
We also invested a significant amount of time in making sure that the website is search engine optimized. We used rich snippets on each of the 58,000+ veteran profile pages and throughout the entire site. We use Google’s Webmaster Tools to submit sitemaps, confirm that all pages are being crawled, fix any errors and monitor indexing. When searching any of the 58,000+ names on The Wall, that veteran’s profile page on VVMF.org is consistently one of the top search results over other veteran sites.
